The Timberland Company has initiated a program to plant 5 million trees in the coming 5 years to solve some of the critical issues that need to be addressed regarding the high risk environments. Timberland is a global leader in the design, engineering, & marketing of premium-quality footwear, apparel, & accessories for consumers who value the outdoors & their time in it. By this program the Timberland Company aims to hel in reducing hunger, protect wildlife, create jobs as well as preserve our environment.
The two areas which have been selected for this reforestation of 5 million trees are Haiti and China’s Horqin Desert which were the most affected areas due to deforestation.
Help Timberland to Plant Trees
As a measure to make people more aware of this program and involve them in the process Timberland has launched a Facebook application by the name of Timberland Earthkeepers Virtual Forest, which has been developed by digital marketing agency, Bridge Worldwide. This application user on Facebook can help Timberland in planting more number of trees beyond the target of 5 million trees. The larger this virtual forest will grow the more trees would be planted in the coming year.
While planting trees a user can name his forest or add message’s to his friend’s trees in the neighbouring forest. With each level they play they can compare their ranks against the other players of the game. It also contains several videos which introduces the farmers participating in Yele Vert proving in-depth information regarding Timberland’s reforestation efforts. These videos also explain that how the efforts by the users through their online actions contribute to the company’s program. While one plays this game the real world impact can be seen by the plantation of 1 million trees or plantation by Timberland depending on the virtual forest size till October 31, 2011 whichever is earlier. With this application Timberland aims to provide people an opportunity for being engaged and concurrently lend a hand to support this meaningful program in its efforts.
