AMD has revealed its plan of sending its employees back to homes. A number of 1000 employees have been decided to be sent. It’s a decision taken prior to the earnings report due next week.
AMD; Advance micro Devices Inc. is a well known manufacturer of embedded processors, flash memories, networking chips and programmable logic devices.
It is not a surprising thing to cut down employees on the basis of profit earnings. Recently Intel has also recorded drop in profit earnings. As per reports, AMD is bearing the costly infusion of ATI after its costly take over yet. The said take over underwent in 2006.
It is still hoped that AMD will make progress in its graphic chip division that it acquired by taking over AMI. An analyst said: “In fact graphics, which is 20 per cent of the business, is outperforming microprocessors. It’s taken share from Nvidia in the last couple of quarters. I expect that to extend into the first half of 2009 despite the weak economy.”
Along with the news of disposing 1000 employees, news of cut off of 20 percent is also announced. This 20 percent reduction will be done from the salaries and deductions also been made from retirement benefit plans on part of company contributions.
Likewise, Motorola has announced a discharge of 4000 employees. These times are hard on every one, no matter how big they are. Rumors about Microsoft are circulating too. It been said that Microsoft will soon be disposing off 91,000 employees world over; the bigger the Lion, the bigger his meal.
