Sony (PlayStation division) posted a 10 percent year-on-year increase in revenues for the second financial quarter for the year 2008-2009
But, there was a considerable 72 per cent decrease in Sony’s overall profits over the same quarter.
Sony has reported the losses of $ 405million (39.5 billion Japanese yen) that were quite less than the $992 million (96.7 billion yen) loss for the same period in 2007.
Associated Press says that perks from PlayStation 3 and flat-panel TV sales, as well as revenue from the movie Hancock wiped out due to a surging yen.
Sony Corp’s quarterly profit was 73.7 billion yen in 2007and it dropped to 20.8 billion yen in the current year.
According to company’s Chief Financial Officer Nobuuuki Oneda, “The Company is already expecting a poor performance for the coming Christmas shopping season.”
“And it can’t be said how long things will go the same way after Christmas, we are just giving a careful look the way things working,” he added.
