Mitsubishi is set to join the ranks of Sony and Samsung in making wireless televisions. The company unveiled its new 40 inch LCD TV that only measures 40mm in depth. The secret to this extreme thinness is a secret wireless tuner which can be tucked out of sight so that one can enjoy the pleasant look and feel of the screen which doesn’t take up unnecessary space.
Mitsubishi’s product will have a chip embedded inside the television which will be linked to the wireless tuner that can send and receive HD signals from 100 feet away. The television is sure to appeal to anyone who wants to have the flexibility to place the screen where they like and how they like rather than be restricted by the width of the tube. While showing the prototype TV in Tokyo, Mitsubishi wouldn’t reveal the technology it was using, but it would likely either be the Wireless High-Definition Interface (WHDI) driven by Motorola and Amimon or the Wireless HD made by a consortium of firms including Sony, Matsushita and Samsung among others.
The resolution of the screen is 1980 by 1080p and will be available for purchase by this autumn. The price for the product is around 2,450 British Pounds. For now however, the product will only be available in Japan. However, if it proves to be popular, it won’t remain confined to the Japanese islands and will surely hit the global market with a bang.
