Features:

Firstly, let us talk about the design and feel. This camera has a compact design and small size that is easy to handle and work with. Though it has a solid feel about it; the D40x is lightweight. Buttons have been placed strategically, and the user faces no problem reaching them while working with the camera.
It does not take time to get warmed up; you can begin with your photographic passion immediately after switching the camera on. It offers completely automatic shooting, and also provides various picture modes for certain conditions, e.g. close up, night mode, sports, portrait, landscape, etc. One gets the choice to operate this camera either manually or in a shutter/aperture priority mode.    There is a little light on the front of the camera that is helpful for auto focusing in dimly lit conditions. This light/flash has a red eye reduction mode, too.

Users are able to shoot about 3 images per second with this camera, which is pretty fast. A maximum of 6 images can be captured if they are in RAW format. At maximum rate, one is able to take about 15 to 20 consecutive shots in JPEG format. Another fine feature is “HELP” that helps you via LCD when you are stuck in a situation where you do not know what to do and what not to do.
Image quality is best from ISO 100 to ISO 800; beyond that there will be visible noise. Slight image conversions are also possible, like the D-lighting feature brightens backlit images, images can be cropped, etc.

Pros:

  • Excellent image quality
  • Helpful integrated “Help” system
  • Fast speed

Cons:

  • No depth of field preview
  • Lacks exposure bracketing

Costing below $550, this SLR offers fine image quality and nice features, along with compact and handy design. Users will not be disappointed, hopefully.
