We found this PV-GS500 at top in video quality in normal as well as in dim-light conditions. With bright and accurate color there are many other fine details about video. There are three CCD sensors for red, green and blue. Its 16:9 spacious screen looks quite impressive and it becomes much easier for user to watch whatever is shoot outdoors with its marvelous 2.7-inch wide LCD screen.

Construction wise it feels sturdy and muscular with a hard metal frame that proves better than the current lightweight plastic body that are found in many camcorders these days. Weight wise (3 pounds) it’s heavier or to be more exact the heaviest among our other tested camcorder.

There is a good selection of manual controls in this PV-GS500: The camera can be put into a complete manual mode, shutter and aperture priority can also be used with scene modes selection for automatic use.

Just like PV-GS300 the most of weight lies on the left portion of the camcorder and you have to use a tight grip otherwise it can tilt to left. There is a somewhat awkward joystick that is near to the mode dial and it is used to control the on-screen menu.

Its battery remains alive for 132 minutes which is quite impressive and makes sure that you can spend two days with it while missing a power source.

Its manual controls are not like previous models of Panasonic line as they are somewhat difficult to use. Serious filmmakers may find these drawbacks perplexing but for commoners it won’t create any problem.

PV-GS500 will serve as a nice pick for cunning filmmakers who like the utilization of automatic control and the suppleness of manual control. No doubt video and stills both are great with it.
