According to the Nikkei business daily report, Toyota will soon become the first major automaker that uses solar power for a vehicle as Toyota is planning to install solar panels in its next-gen hybrid cars Prius.
The reports tell that these solar panels will be installed on the roof of the new Prius while redesigning the gasoline-electric hybrid car next year. The system’s power would be used for the air conditioning.
Kyocera has made these solar panels, which will be used in the cars, the Nikkei stated.

The Prius is counted as the first mass-produced hybrid car and it went on sale during 1997 in Japan and in 2000 at other markets. So far, one million units of the vehicles have been sold globally.
Prius was modified as an improved hybrid system in 2003 and its third-generation version will be launched till next year.
