A web-site based research company comScore.com released a report, yesterday, regarding increasing video-viewing on the internet during the month of January, 2009. This report was based on the statistics of US internet users.

ComScore.com maintains database of real-time measurements of all the activities going on at the internet. This report was prepared with the help of VideoMatrix; which is a tool to help comScore’s clients understand the rapidly expanding online video market.

The report showed that in the month of January, 2009, a visible increase in the viewer ship had been witnessed by 4% in contrast with the viewer ship in December, 2008. The leading website was none other than Youtube, which is rapidly acquiring more viewer ship than any other video-hosting company.

Statistics of the report showed that the US internet users viewed a total of 14.8 billion videos in the month of January, 2009. Studies show that half of the American population views online videos; every user viewing about 100 videos a month.

Youtube was rated top US video property with a share of 42.9% of total videos viewed, i.e.; 6.4 billion videos. Its viewer-count reached 102 million for the first time in its history. Second in the rating was Fox Interactive Media with a share of 3.7%, followed by Yahoo sites with 2.5%.
